Our client is a leading international engineering and construction contractor delivering complex design-and-build projects across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. The business operates within the data centre, pharmaceutical, logistics, food and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The Role
An experienced Safety Manager and Lifting Supervisor is required to support the delivery of a major data centre project in Skien. The role will take responsibility for planning, coordinating and supervising lifting operations, with a particular focus on crane activities and the safe installation of precast concrete elements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, assess and supervise all lifting operations across the project.
- Prepare and maintain lifting plans, method statements and risk assessments.
- Lead the lifting and crane teams, ensuring all personnel are appropriately trained, certified and competent.
- Ensure lifting equipment, machinery and accessories are correctly inspected, maintained and documented.
- Plan and oversee the installation of precast concrete elements, including erection sequences, lifting points and rigging methods.
- Coordinate the delivery, storage and on-site handling of precast components.
- Oversee the alignment, temporary bracing and final fixing of precast elements.
- Ensure structural stability and safe working practices throughout installation activities.
- Coordinate with the Temporary Works Coordinator, structural engineers, manufacturers, subcontractors and package managers.
- Liaise with relevant authorities, police, airfields and neighbouring property owners where required.
- Ensure safety-critical systems, including hook cameras, PPE and communication equipment, remain operational.
- Establish processes for reporting and managing defects, incidents and equipment failures.
- Lead lifting meetings, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Produce KPI reports covering crane utilisation, breakdowns and operational performance.
- Undertake or delegate the responsibilities of Crane Coordinator, Crane Supervisor and MEWP Coordinator.
- Maintain accurate records of lifting activities, quality inspections and approvals.
Candidate Requirements
- Recognised Appointed Person qualification for lifting operations.
- Strong experience managing complex lifting and crane operations on major construction projects.
- Good knowledge of lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements.
- Experience coordinating the installation of precast concrete elements.
- Thorough understanding of lifting equipment inspections, certification and compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with project teams, subcontractors, engineers and external authorities.
- Temporary Works Supervisor qualification is beneficial but not essential.
- Previous data centre or major mission-critical construction experience would be advantageous.
