Job description

About Us

Since 2016, Patchwork Health has been on a mission to make truly flexible and sustainable working a reality for all healthcare staff. Their fully integrated workforce management solution helps optimise outcomes for organisations, managers, staff and patients alike. Built by a team of dedicated healthcare veterans, and co-created with the NHS, their technology and services have been embraced by over 100 healthcare sites to date.

Patchwork offers a range of different solutions, including temporary staff banks, which enable organisations to source temporary staff from their own pool of approved workers; ‘collaborative staff banks’, which help healthcare organisations team up with others in the same region to widen and share their temporary staffing pools; an innovative new rostering solution which enables more flexible, sustainable staffing for permanent healthcare staff; and an Agency Manager which makes it easier for managers to select appropriate temporary staff from external agencies when necessary. Patchwork Insights also provides managers with comprehensive data oversight, to monitor staffing trends, shift fill rates and pay rate escalations, and reliably plan ahead to prevent staffing gaps.

Patchwork Health has been recognised as HSJ’s 2022 Staffing Solution of the Year, and have recently received the prestigious HSJ Partnership Award and the Spectator’s Economic Innovator of the Year Award.

The Role

As a Product Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of our workforce management platform, building products that solve meaningful problems for NHS staff and healthcare organisations across the UK.

You'll join a collaborative Product Team made up of Product Managers and Product Designers, working closely with Engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to define product strategy, deliver intuitive user experiences and bring impactful solutions to market. Together, we take complex healthcare challenges and turn them into simple, scalable products that create real value for our customers and support Patchwork's continued growth.

We're looking for Product Managers who take ownership, lead with confidence and combine empathy with strong commercial and product thinking. You'll have the autonomy to tackle high-impact problems, make informed decisions using data and customer insights, and help shape products that make a genuine difference to the day-to-day lives of NHS staff.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to fellow Product Managers, helping to shape product strategy, embed best practices and share new ideas across the Product Team.
  • Champion agile ways of working by leading high-quality product discovery, backlog management, user story creation and squad refinement sessions.
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders to align on product direction and deliver successful outcomes, without relying on formal authority.
Product Management
  • Define the strategic roadmap for your product area through continuous product discovery, customer insight and performance tracking.
  • Own and deliver product outcomes by managing your roadmap and backlog, working closely with Engineering, Design and Client Operations teams.
Analytics & Insights
  • Analyse customer feedback, product data, commercial insights and market trends to make informed product decisions.
  • Use both quantitative and qualitative insights to continuously prioritise and refine your product backlog.
  • Define, monitor and report on product success metrics across different customer segments and markets.
  • Monitor product usage to identify opportunities to improve adoption, usability and engagement, simplify experiences and retire features that no longer deliver value.
Commercial Acumen
  • Track your product's contribution to key business metrics, including CARR, customer retention and product adoption, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Balance commercial priorities with long-term product strategy, using customer, sales and commercial insights to inform roadmap decisions.
Collaboration
  • Build trusted relationships with customers, participating in client meetings where required to understand challenges and communicate product direction.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the business to gather requirements, explain product decisions and align teams around shared outcomes.
  • Foster strong working relationships with Engineering, Design and your agile squad to deliver high-quality products.
  • Partner with Revenue teams to support customer conversations, demonstrate product value and communicate future product direction.
  • Proactively identify dependencies across products and squads, helping to manage risks and ensure a cohesive product experience.
Documentation
  • Create and maintain clear product documentation, including product one-pagers, product requirement documents and other key artefacts that support successful delivery.
Research & Innovation
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies and Product Management best practice, bringing new ideas back to the team.
  • Evaluate new tools, technologies and ways of working that can improve how we build and deliver products.
AI
  • Use AI throughout the Product Management lifecycle, from discovery and prioritisation through to delivery and communication, building reusable workflows and encouraging adoption across the team.
  • Evaluate AI opportunities with a customer-first mindset, considering user needs, appropriate solutions, potential risks and trust, while using competitive insights to help shape roadmap decisions.
Requirements
Essential
  • Demonstrable experience working as a Product Manager within an agile product development environment.
  • Experience managing SaaS products throughout the product lifecycle.
  • A track record of building, communicating and delivering strategic product roadmaps.
  • Experience delivering measurable value to customers through product strategy and roadmap execution.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain your thinking, product decisions and ways of working to a wide range of cross-functional stakeholders, while actively seeking feedback to improve.
  • A collaborative approach, with a genuine focus on team success and shared outcomes.
  • Results and quality-driven, with a proven ability to deliver value consistently while continuously improving your approach.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to define complex problems clearly and develop solutions that balance simplicity, flexibility and impact.
  • Confidence in sharing your perspective, while remaining open to challenge, new ideas and evidence that may shape your thinking.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to challenge constructively and inspire others to achieve great outcomes.
  • A self-starter who enjoys collaborating with a wide range of people and taking ownership of their work.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Tech savvy and adaptable, with the confidence to quickly learn new technologies and systems.
  • Enthusiasm for working within a fast-paced scale-up environment and embracing the opportunities and challenges that come with growth.
