Maritime Trainee is one of the leading management trainee programs in Norway. It is organized for the industry by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (Norges Rederiforbund), in cooperation with Menon Economics. The program lasts for 18 months and combines working in a world-leading maritime company with an academic program consisting of five modules in Norway, Singapore, Copenhagen and London. The modules are focused around key areas such as maritime knowledge across the ocean industries (including technology development and environment perspective, geopolitical landscape and security and contingency), management competencies and corporate social responsibility. The trainees gain a broad overview of the maritime industry and the necessary skills and capabilities to succeed in a management position in the future.
As a Maritime Trainee, you are assigned a mentor, and you build a network within a multidisciplinary, international and professional program. You will expand your network and become a part of an Alumni-network, consisting of more than 320 previous maritime trainees. Since 2005, more than 50 companies in the maritime industry have taken part in the program. These include ship owners and operators, shipyards, design companies, maritime equipment manufacturers, oil rig companies, classification societies, law firms, banks and ship brokers.
The ideal candidate for the program has recently completed a master’s degree in technology, economics or IT. Candidates with up to five years of work experience post-master’s studies are also eligible for the program and are encouraged to apply.
In addition to following the Norwegian Ship Association’s trainee program, the trainee will rotate within relevant departments and locations in Odfjell Technology, both onshore and offshore.
