Job summary

Toptal is seeking a Lead Technical Architect to own the architecture and end-to-end delivery of a SAP S/4HANA migration program. Based in Oslo with 2–3 days onsite, you will define the migration roadmap, assess the ECC landscape, and lead technical workstreams across integrations, custom code, and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of SAP technical experience with at least 5 years in S/4HANA transformations.
• Proven track record leading large-scale ERP/S4HANA migration programs.
• Expertise in end-to-end S/4HANA architecture and migration strategies.
• Deep SAP Basis and system administration experience.
• Strong knowledge of SAP HANA database architecture.
• ABAP experience including custom code assessment and modernization for S/4HANA.
• Experience managing SAP integrations, APIs, middleware, and third-party apps.
• Experience with SAP Fiori architecture.
• Hands-on with SUM and DMO.
• Migration planning, test, cutover, and downtime reduction.
• Security, transport management, release processes, environment strategy.
• SAP environments that are highly available, scalable, secure; Azure cloud experience.
• Strong stakeholder management across teams.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end S/4HANA migration architecture and roadmap.
• Develop design documents, standards, and governance for migration.
• Establish technical governance, quality gates, and checkpoints.
• Identify risks and define mitigation plans throughout program.
• Assess ECC landscape, document integrations, data flows, and risks.
• Lead technical impact assessments across integrations, middleware, and APIs.
• Coordinate remediation with owners, teams, and vendors.
• Ensure critical integrations work post-conversion through testing and cutover.
• Lead SAP custom code assessments and ABAP adaptation.
• Coordinate remediation, testing, and deployment of custom SAP objects.
• Oversee SUM/DMO-based migration activities.
• Support testing cycles, cutover readiness, performance optimization, monitoring.
