Job description

We are Kilter, and we’re on a mission to transform sustainable agriculture and food production by harnessing the power of technology. With a growing population and a diet increasingly shifting towards plant-based foods, innovative solutions are required. We need to grow more food on less land while protecting nature and the environment.

Kilter develops groundbreaking technology that addresses major challenges for farmers in a sustainable way. Our fully automated agricultural robot, Kilter AX-1, represents a paradigm shift in weed control. Using advanced AI and patented nozzle technology, AX-1 precisely targets weeds without harming crops or soil. This reduces herbicide use by up to 95% and increases crop yield by up to 35%.

About the role
As an Embedded Software Engineer at Kilter, you will help develop the software that enables our autonomous agricultural robots to operate safely, reliably and precisely in the field.

You will work across the embedded software stack, from low-level firmware and hardware interfaces to real-time control, sensor integration and communication between systems. Working closely with electronics, robotics, mechanical engineering, AI and service teams, you will help turn ideas into robust solutions that perform in demanding agricultural environments.

What will you do?
  • Design, develop and maintain embedded software for Kilter’s agricultural robots
  • Write reliable, testable and maintainable code for resource-constrained systems
  • Develop software for microcontrollers, sensors, actuators and other hardware interfaces
  • Implement real-time control, monitoring and communication functionality
  • Integrate embedded systems with higher-level robotics and AI software
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across hardware and software boundaries
  • Contribute to architecture, technical decisions, code reviews and documentation
  • Develop and maintain automated tests, hardware-in-the-loop tests and diagnostic tools
  • Work with the team to validate software on prototypes and production systems
  • Help improve development processes, tools and software quality as we scale
We think you will thrive with us if you:
  • Enjoy solving complex technical problems with practical, robust solutions
  • Take ownership and are comfortable working from early concepts through to field deployment
  • Are curious about how software, electronics, mechanics and robotics work together
  • Work in a structured and detail-oriented way while maintaining momentum
  • Communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating across different disciplines
  • Are comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities can evolve
  • Care about software quality, safety, reliability and the user experience
You most likely have
  • A degree in computer science, electronics, robotics, control engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional experience developing embedded software or firmware
  • Strong programming skills in C or C++
  • Experience with microcontrollers, real-time systems and hardware interfaces
  • Experience with debugging tools, version control and software development practices
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I²C or Ethernet
  • Good communication skills in English

Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, motor control, sensor integration, Linux, embedded operating systems or safety-critical software is a plus.

Why should you choose Kilter?
At Kilter, you will be part of an innovative and rapidly growing startup with global ambitions. You’ll work in a flat, open, and inclusive environment, surrounded by engaged and talented colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds. Working styles vary across the team, but we all share a passion for delivering solutions that promote sustainable food production.

We give our people the opportunity to grow and take ownership of their work. As the company expands, you will have room to shape both your role and your skills. Our headquarters are in Langhus, Nordre Follo, with parking and charging facilities for electric cars. We offer a competitive salary and the opportunity to participate in the company’s options programme.
