Job summary

The University of Oslo's Department of Geosciences invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in remote sensing and modeling of the cryosphere. The role is based at Blindern, Oslo, and includes three years of full-time employment with 10% dedicated to teaching activities.

The successful candidate will develop advanced remote sensing, photogrammetry, and data-science methods to study snow and glaciers worldwide, collaborating across international projects and space agency

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in geomatics, geosciences, geophysics, environmental sciences, computer/data science or relevant topics. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Must document a strong quantitative background and interest in remote sensing or photogrammetry, and related data science approaches, and a strong interest in geosciences/climate sciences.
• Must document scientific programming experience, specifically for data processing, analysis, or modeling of the cryosphere.
• The candidate must have proof of excellence in research as demonstrated through publications in refereed journals and presentations at scholarly conferences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply cutting-edge remote sensing or photogrammetry methods, in combination with data science approaches such as machine learning and data assimilation via cryospheric models.
• A main focus of this work is snow and glaciers in the mountains around the globe.
• Candidates will be given opportunities to collaborate internationally with other world-leading research environments and space agencies.
• There will be field work in mountain environments and the Arctic where appropriate.
• The exact focus of the position will be developed together with the successful candidate.
