The University of Oslo invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow in Meteorology at the Department of Geoscience, Oslo. The fellowship lasts three years with possibility of a fourth year for teaching or research assistance. Work location is Blindern, Oslo, within the Section for Meteorology and Oceanography.

Projects focus on EEIwarm and NorESM3 analyses, using CERES datasets, with opportunities for international collaboration and career development. Salary follows the PhD position code 1017.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Meteorology or related field.
  • Foreign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to four years in Norwegian system.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and ideally also a Scandinavian language.
  • Relevant experience in analyzing output from, and ideally running, weather and/or climate models.
  • Strong programming skills and experience working with large data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze observational datasets to quantify cloud and radiative flux variations related to rapid warming (2023–2025).
  • Apply atmosphere-only NorESM3 simulations to explore drivers of rapid warming.
  • Diagnose atmosphere-only and coupled NorESM3 simulations to link cloud processes and EEI anomalies to the rapid warming.
