University of Oslo invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow in remote sensing of the cryosphere at the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The position is a three-year fellowship with possible fourth-year career-promoting work, including teaching and supervision.

Place of work is the Geosciences Department in Oslo. The candidate will develop cutting-edge remote sensing or photogrammetry methods, collaborate internationally, and contribute to data science

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in geomatics, geosciences, computer science/data science/statistics, physics, mathematics, environmental sciences or geophysics.
  • Must defend Master’s degree before start date.
  • Strong quantitative background and English language ability.
  • Scientific programming skills for large data sets.
  • Experience with remote sensing and data science approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply cutting-edge remote sensing or photogrammetry methods.
  • Collaborate internationally on research projects and fieldwork in mountains and Arctic regions.
  • Contribute to data science and machine learning methods for cryosphere studies.
  • Work with cryospheric models and data assimilation.
