We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Contracts Specialist with experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects, specifically in the subsea sector. The Contracts Specialist will play a key role in the lifecycle of large-scale subsea projects, managing and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and mitigating risk. You will work closely with project managers, legal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure contracts are executed efficiently, supporting project success from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Development & Negotiation:
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and subcontracts related to subsea EPC projects, including service agreements, purchase orders, and variations.
- Coordinate with internal departments (legal, procurement, engineering, project management) to ensure contract terms align with project requirements and organizational policies.
- Identify contractual risks and propose mitigation strategies to minimize potential legal, financial, and operational risks.
- Ensure that appropriate risk allocation and management clauses are embedded in all contracts.
- Contract Administration:
- Administer and manage contracts throughout the project lifecycle, including change orders, claims, extensions, and amendments.
- Maintain accurate records of contract-related documents and communications.
- Monitor compliance with contractual obligations, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring project objectives are met.
- Supplier and Stakeholder Coordination:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of contractual matters.
- Negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring cost-effective and compliant delivery of goods and services.
- Manage and resolve contract-related disputes and claims, coordinating with legal and project management teams to achieve favourable outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between project teams and legal counsel when necessary to address contractual challenges.
- Compliance & Legal Awareness:
- Ensure all contracts comply with relevant industry regulations, legal requirements, and corporate policies.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and best practices related to subsea EPC projects.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide regular reports to senior management on contract performance, risks, and issues.
- Ensure that all contract documentation is complete, organized, and up-to-date.
- Develop and implement improvements in contract management processes, templates, and systems.
- Contribute to lessons learned and ensure best practices are applied to future projects.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or a legal qualification (LLB, JD) is a plus.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in contract management or contract administration, preferably within EPC projects in the subsea or oil and gas sector.
- Proven experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex contracts, including claims and disputes resolution.
- Familiarity with industry standards, such as FIDIC or NEC contracts, and understanding of maritime/subsea regulations.

- Strong knowledge of contract law, contract management, and risk management principles.

- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM), Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), or equivalent are preferred.
