Job summary

NTNU's Department of Design invites applications for an Associate Professor position affiliated with the NTNU Shore Control Lab. The role focuses on human-computer interaction, human-centred design, and safety-critical systems in maritime technologies, with teaching and research responsibilities across NTNU’s design disciplines.

You will contribute to ongoing projects, develop new research initiatives, apply for external funding, and educate future industrial designers through teaching,

Qualifications

• PhD in design, interaction design, industrial design, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated pedagogical competence as per university guidelines.
• Experience with experimental design research, user studies, interaction design and industrial design.
• Strong technical understanding and ability to collaborate with technology environments and industry.
• Publications at a high international level.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• Norwegian language skills at level B2.

Responsibilities

• Teach and supervise at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels.
• Develop existing courses and learning formats in HMI, human-centred design and safety-critical systems.
• Conduct high-level research on human-centred maritime technology.
• Publish in international journals and conferences; disseminate results to academia, industry and society.
• Seek external research funding and collaborate across disciplines with industry and public sectors.
• Contribute to education of future designers through teaching, supervision and course development.
