Job summary

The University of Bergen invites applications for a permanent Researcher (code 1109) in applied mathematics and computational science within the Porous Media Research Group. The position for 2027–2031 is primarily funded by CSSR and gigaCCS, with potential for long-term continued funding.

The successful candidate will develop and analyze solver technology for multiphase flow in deformable porous media, supervise PhD/MSc students, and help integrate centre activities. Excellent English required.

Qualifications

  • PhD in computational/applied mathematics or closely related field; PhD must be awarded.
  • Experience with numerical analysis and partial differential equations is a requirement.
  • Experience with development of simulation technology is a requirement.
  • Experience with either multiphase flow in porous media, or geomechanics, is a requirement.
  • Experience with CO2 storage or petroleum engineering is an advantage.
  • Experience with open science and FAIR research practices is an advantage.
  • Experience from supervision of students is an advantage.
  • Ability to attract external research funding is an advantage.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written English; fluency in a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Development and mathematical analysis of solver technology for multiphase flow simulation in deformable geological porous media.
  • Supervision of PhD and MSc students with thesis topics.
  • Support in the integration of centers activities, including annual working plans and reporting.
  • Contribute to outreach and communication activities with society and industry partners.
