Job summary

Hydro in Norway is seeking an experienced Project Manager to plan and execute internal development, pilot, and modification projects for the HalZero CO2 emission-free aluminium process. Based in Porsgrunn, you will lead owner-side project management for this strategic program and coordinate stakeholders to deliver on technology development and industrialization goals.

A key project role with HalZero

Hydro is a global aluminium company striving to be a leader in building a more sustainable future. In December 2021, we announced our plans to develop and industrialize HalZero, a new CO₂ emission-free process for producing primary aluminium, and in December 2025 we completed construction of the HalZero Test Facility in Porsgrunn.

The development of HalZero is one of three pillars in Hydro's initiative to deliver aluminium with nearly net-zero CO₂ emissions. Industrializing the HalZero process requires extensive development, including laboratory work, design and operation of our Test Facility and pilots, and engineering and construction of demo and full commercial plants.

We are now looking for an experienced Project Manager to plan and execute internal development, pilot, and modification projects in HalZero. The role operates on behalf of HalZero for internal projects, ensuring that project scope, priorities, and outcomes are aligned with technology and business needs.

What you will be doing

Lead owner-side project management on behalf of HalZero for internal development, pilot, and modification projects, with overall responsibility for successful project delivery.

Drive project planning and execution by developing and managing project plans and ensuring execution from concept to handover.

Identify and mobilize relevant Hydro internal resources, including Hydro Projects, to support project development and execution.

Ensure HSE and compliance through safe project execution, effective risk management, and adherence to governance and documentation requirements.

Stakeholder management, coordinating activities across technology, engineering, operations, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

Support technical implementation by translating technical requirements into practical solutions and following projects through installation, commissioning, and verification.

Drive continuous improvement and learning by capturing lessons learned, enhancing project practices and tools, and strengthening HalZero's project execution capabilities.

The position is based in Porsgrunn and requires physical presence in our facilities.

What will make you successful

Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field

5+ years of experience from industrial projects, within process industry, pilot plants, R&D or similar technical environments.

Proven ability to lead complex projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders, contractors, and service providers.

Strong understanding of project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
