Job summary

Hydro is seeking graduates to join its R&D team in Sunndalsøra, Norway, to work on advanced alloys and casthouse technologies. You will contribute from day one to meaningful projects in collaboration with plants and customers.

The program targets recent graduates with a master's or PhD in metallurgy or related fields, offering hands-on experience, training resources, and long-term development within a global energy company. Applicants should be fluent in English and prepared for travel.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy, Material Science, Nanotechnology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar.
• Maximum of two years of full-time work experience after graduation.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; Scandinavian language preferred.

What you will be doing

Collaborate closely with our plants and customers to develop innovative casthouse products and alloys, including our flagship low carbon brands Hydro CIRCAL and Hydro REDUXA.

You will contribute to a broad range of R&D activities, including planning and executing cutting‑edge research projects, developing and testing new alloys and casthouse technologies, and collaborating with customers on joint development initiatives.

Presenting results through reports, webinars and presentations.

Collaborate with universities, research institutes, and industrial partners to support innovation and development projects.

What will make you successful?

Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy, Material Science, Nanotechnology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar fields.

A maximum of two years of full-time work experience after graduation.

Proficiency in written and spoken English, with a preference for proficiency in a Scandinavian language.

Extracurricular activities and volunteer work will be considered advantageous.

Additional information

Some domestic and international travel should be expected.
