Dalata Hotel Group's Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, home to Café Americain, is seeking a personable Waiter to deliver warm, professional service from breakfast to dinner.

You’ll greet guests, take orders, upsell where appropriate, and work closely with a friendly team in a fast-paced Art Deco setting on Leidseplein. Fluency in English or Dutch is required; other languages are a plus. Previous hospitality experience is valued; progression through the Dalata Academy is available.

We’re looking for a charismatic and service-driven Waiter to bring warmth, energy, and professionalism to every guest interaction. From morning coffees to elegant dinners and everything in between, you’ll help create memorable moments in one of the city’s most storied hospitality venues.

Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, part of the Dalata Hotel Group, is a 4-star, 173-room hotel nestled in one of the most beautiful art nouveau buildings in the Netherlands. Home to the legendary Café Americain and stylish Bar Americain, we serve guests from around the world with a culinary experience that’s as memorable as the setting.

Objective of the Role

As a Waiter at Café Americain, you’re at the heart of the guest experience, delivering exceptional service with warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail. Whether welcoming guests on the lively terrace or inside the stunning Art Deco restaurant, you’ll ensure every visit feels special from the first greeting to the final farewell.

You’ll serve everything from breakfast and lunch to drinks and dinner, using your product knowledge and genuine passion for hospitality to anticipate guest needs and exceed expectations. Adaptable and team-focused, you’ll support your colleagues through busy service periods and handle the unexpected with calm and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Know Your Menu Inside Out

• Be fully familiar with all menu items, including ingredients, allergens, and wine list, to confidently assist guests and answer questions – of course, we will train you!

Create a Welcoming Atmosphere

• Greet guests warmly with a smile and positive attitude, making each visitor feel valued from the moment they arrive.
• Maintain the restaurant’s appearance, keeping tables, chairs, floors, lighting, music, and décor clean, tidy, and inviting at all times.

Serve with Excellence

• Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently, offering knowledgeable suggestions and upselling where appropriate.
• Deliver orders promptly and ensure every guest receives complete and flawless service.

Communicate and Collaborate

• Maintain clear, positive communication with colleagues to ensure smooth service flow.
• Participate actively in team meetings to stay informed about new products, procedures, and upcoming events.

Handle Challenges Calmly

• Resolve guest complaints professionally using property procedures, turning challenges into positive experiences.

Go the Extra Mile

• Take initiative to assist guests and colleagues wherever needed to create a seamless and memorable service experience.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a Waiter who brings energy, professionalism, and a genuine passion for delivering outstanding service. Here’s what makes a great fit:

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, with a passion for delivering exceptional service
• Fluent in English or Dutch (bonus points for any other languages you speak!)
• Friendly, professional, and presentable, with excellent communication skills
• Calm under pressure, flexible, and able to juggle busy service times with a smile
• Proactive, attentive to detail, and eager to learn, especially about our menu, drinks, and POS system
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays
• MBO+ level work- and thinking skills or equivalent
