Job summary

CITYFÖRSTER is an international practice specializing in architecture, urban planning and strategy, with a strong base in Rotterdam. We are looking for an Urban Designer who can translate complex urban issues into strong spatial concepts and lead projects both substantially and organizationally.

You will work on a wide range of urban planning projects across scales, develop design concepts, manage processes and collaborate with clients, consultants and design teams.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
• Registered urban planner or architect (or equivalent).
• Experience with complex urban planning projects.
• Lead projects independently and manage teams.
• Strong conceptual and design skills.
• Experience with competitions or proven design outcomes.
• Clear communication — visually, verbally and in writing.
• Interest in sustainability, climate and future of cities.
• International experience is an advantage.
• Strong design mindset and strategic insight.

CITYFÖRSTER is an international practice specializing in architecture, urban planning and strategy, with a strong base in Rotterdam. We work on projects that focus on urban quality, social relevance and the long term. We do this in teams that take responsibility, are intellectually rigorous and challenge one another.

From large-scale area developments in the Netherlands and Germany to international master plans and strategic urban projects: our work spans design, research and vision development. We work in interdisciplinary teams of architects, urban planners and landscape designers, often in collaboration with leading external experts in the fields of landscape, mobility, engineering and sustainability.

We are looking for an Urban Designer who can translate complex urban issues into strong spatial concepts — and who can lead projects both substantially and organizationally.

About the role

As an Urban Designer, you will work on a wide range of urban planning projects across various scales and contexts. You will develop strong design concepts, manage processes and work closely with clients, consultants and design teams.

You are capable of thinking strategically and creating spatially compelling designs. You understand the social and environmental challenges facing cities and know how to translate these into clear urban planning proposals.

Your duties will include:

• Developing urban planning visions, master plans and spatial strategies
• Leading and coordinating projects and design teams
• Establishing and developing design concepts and competition entries

We are looking for someone with:

• Can lead projects independently and manage teams
• Possess strong conceptual and design skills
• Have experience with competitions or a proven track record of design outcomes
• Can communicate clearly — visually, verbally and in writing
• Are interested in topics such as sustainability, climate and the future of cities
• Experience in an international context is an advantage.
• A strong design mindset, strategic insight and the ability to work independently.
