Job summary

Cityförster zoekt een Carbon Strategist in Rotterdam die CO₂-uitstoot binnen stedelijke systemen onderzoekt en vertaalt naar concrete strategieën voor beleid en ontwerp.

Je bouwt voort op CITYFÖRSTER's ervaring in carbon-based urbanism en ontwikkelt methoden, tools en benaderingen verder, terwijl je nauw samenwerkt met ontwerpteams om koolstofintelligentie in ruimtelijk ontwerp te integreren.

Qualifications

• Drie jaar relevante werkervaring op het gebied van klimaat, stedenbouw of beleid.
• Vloeiende beheersing van het Nederlands.
• Gemak met data-analyse en interpretatie van cijfers.
• Vermogen om complexe informatie om te zetten in duidelijke argumenten en praktische tools.

Responsibilities

• Onderzoeken van CO₂-uitstoot binnen stedelijke systemen (materialen, mobiliteit, landgebruik, energie).
• Ontwikkelen van tools, methoden en kaders om impact te meten en te verminderen.
• Vertalen van data naar strategieën voor stedelijke planning en ruimtelijke ontwikkeling.
• Advies aan klanten op basis van duidelijke, inhoudelijke analyses.
• Bijdragen aan publicaties en voorstellen en ontwikkelingen van CITYFÖRSTER's thought leadership.
• Zorgen dat koolstofinformatie geïntegreerd wordt in ontwerpbeslissingen van het team.

We are looking for a Carbon Strategist

Rotterdam — Full-time — Pay scale 5

In recent years, we have built a strong position in the field of Carbon-Based Urbanism — a combination of research, spatial thinking and strategic advice aimed at understanding and reducing the CO₂ impact of cities.

To further strengthen and expand this work, we are looking for a Carbon Strategist. This is not a traditional architectural role. We are looking for someone driven by a fundamental question: How can cities — and the people who live in them — radically reduce their CO₂ impact, and how do we translate that into concrete strategies?

About the role:

The Carbon Strategist operates at the intersection of research, urban planning and strategy. You will build on CITYFÖRSTER's existing expertise in the field of carbon-based urbanism and help to further develop our methods, tools and substantive position. Your work will focus on analysing CO₂ emissions within urban systems and translating data into clear strategies that can guide projects, policy and decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Researching CO₂ emissions within urban systems (materials, mobility, land use, energy, consumption)
• Developing tools, methods and frameworks to measure and reduce impact
• Translating data into strategies for urban planning and spatial development
• Advising clients based on clear, substantive analyses
• Contributing to publications, proposals and the further development of CITYFÖRSTER's thought leadership
• You will work closely with our design teams to ensure that carbon intelligence is used not as an add-on, but as an integral part of spatial design

We're looking for someone with:

• At least 3 years' relevant work experience
• Proficiency in Dutch
• Confidence working with data, analysis and interpretation
• The ability to switch between quantitative insights and strategic thinking
• An intrinsic interest in climate, CO₂ and system change
• The ability to work independently and take responsibility for their work
• The ability to translate complex information into clear arguments and practical tools
• A drive to create impact, not just output
• A affinity with urban planning or spatial design — without necessarily being a traditional designer

We're not looking for a standard profile. Your background may be in architecture, urban planning, environmental science, engineering or policy — what matters more is your way of thinking, your analytical skills and your curiosity.
