Job summary

SwitcH2 Offshore in Rotterdam invites a Structural Engineering Intern to assist in the design, analysis, and integration of topside modules for offshore green ammonia facilities. You will work with process and offshore engineers to deliver innovative solutions.

You will gain hands-on experience in offshore renewable energy projects, with mentorship and a structured internship program in a collaborative, international environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or related fields (HBO/WO).
  • Excellent understanding of structural engineering fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools: Python, AutoCAD, Tekla, Revit, MatrixFrame.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Interest in offshore renewable energy, hydrogen, and ammonia projects.
  • Proactive and able to learn independently with guidance.
  • Fluent English, both spoken and written.
  • Existing rights to live/work in the Netherlands and availability for 6 months.
  • Willingness to work in Rotterdam office with some remote work discussed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the structural design, analysis, and integration of topside modules for offshore green ammonia facilities.

  • Assist drafting of technical documentation.

Job description

SwitcH2 is a growing green tech company based in the heart of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. SwitcH2 develops offshore solutions to turn seawater into green hydrogen and ammonia. It is an innovative company that works to deliver decarbonization solutions at scale for heavy industry and global shipping. The Role

As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will assist in the structural design, analysis and integration of topside modules for large-scale offshore green ammonia facilities. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including process and offshore engineers to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.

Key opportunities
  • Support in the structural design of FPSO topside modules,
  • Support in defining the mass and centre-of-gravity of FPSO topside modules,
  • Support the drafting of technical documentation,
  • Assist with ensuring compliance to offshore standards and regulations (IEC, DNV and equivalent, etc.),
  • Collaborate with project teams on concept development and feasibility studies.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program of Structural Engineering, or related fields such as Mechanical, Civil or Naval Engineering (HBO or WO equivalent, preferably at the end of the studies),
  • Excellent understanding of structural engineering fundamentals,
  • Familiarity with engineering tools (e.g. Python and AutoCAD/Tekla/Revit/MatrixFrame),
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail,
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team,
  • Interest in (offshore) renewable energy, hydrogen, and ammonia projects,
  • Proactive, eager to learn and able to work independently with guidance,
  • Fluent command of spoken and written English,
  • Existing rights to live and work in the Netherlands,
  • Available for an internship of 6 months,
  • Available to start by September 1st, 2026 or no later than October 1st,
  • Available to work in the office 5 days per week, with some remote working to be discussed,
  • Candidate must live within a 30-minute door-to-door commute of the Rotterdam office.

The SwitcH2 office is located in the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) in the Groot Handelsgebouw next to Rotterdam central station, where many high-tech startups are based. The location is filled with a vibrant energy and smart, young, motivated people working on exciting projects, and is easy to reach by public transportation. All work is preformed onsite at our Rotterdam office.
