Job description

About CloudWatts

CloudWatts builds software that makes the power grid more flexible. With our app Zonnedimmer we help consumers get more out of their solar power, while helping grid operators and energy suppliers solve grid congestion.

We are driven people building forward-looking new applications for our residential customers and partners in the energy market. We value personal freedom and development, we laugh a lot and we enjoy doing fun things together.

You will join a growing team. Partly driven by the rapid developments in AI, we approach things in a completely new way: with the focus on the person, what you are good at and where your strengths lie. We shape the work around the person doing it, rather than the other way around.

What you will do

You strengthen our development team and help build the platform behind Zonnedimmer and our services for energy suppliers and grid operators:

  • Connecting and controlling new assets. Beyond solar panels we are expanding to home batteries, heat pumps and EV chargers. You help build the integrations with manufacturers and the logic to control these devices smartly.
  • Evolving our platform. From integrations with manufacturer clouds to forecasting, dispatching and verifying flexibility: software that has to work reliably, because the grid depends on it.
  • Building for scale and robustness. The number of connected installations and partners is growing fast. You help make sure our systems can handle it, with attention to quality, monitoring and security.
  • AI as a standard part of your toolkit. We use AI extensively in our development process. You get the room to grow with it and help decide how we get the most out of these tools.
  • Close to practice. You work closely with support and operations and see directly what your work means for users and partners.

We work with modern, smart and in-house systems. Your time goes to what matters: building good software that makes a difference in the energy transition.

Who we are looking for
  • You have a completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT or a related field.
  • You have experience with backend development and APIs and enjoy building reliable, scalable systems.
  • You have knowledge of PostgreSQL and an interest in TimescaleDB. You find it interesting to store, process and expose large volumes of time-series data efficiently.
  • You are familiar with Docker and want to dive deeper into Kubernetes. Experience with Linux, CI/CD and managing container environments is a plus.
  • You care about performance, monitoring and reliability. You think about what happens when an API does not respond, a background job hangs or data volumes grow sharply.
  • You are a strong problem solver: you understand systems end to end and like digging into logs and data when something does not work as expected.
  • You are self-motivated to learn quickly how energy management and the flex market work: grid congestion, imbalance, negative prices. Prior knowledge is nice, eagerness to learn matters more.
  • You like to get things done without someone telling you what to do all day. You take ownership of what you build, from idea to production.
  • You communicate clearly, including with colleagues without a technical background.
  • You speak and write Dutch and English well.

This is probably not your job if you would rather work on a small piece of a system in a large team, wait for someone to write the specifications for you, or are not curious about what your software does in the real world.

What we offer
  • A competitive salary: approx. € 3,200 - € 3,600 gross per month on a full-time basis, depending on knowledge and experience.
  • An inspiring workplace at one of the most innovative and fastest-growing companies in the energy transition.
  • A great office in Zwolle, close to the station and the city centre, easy to reach by public transport and by car.
  • Plenty of room to shape your own work; your role grows with what you can do and what you enjoy.
  • Lots of challenge and technically interesting problems at the intersection of software, data and energy.
  • A committed team where your work has directly visible impact, and where there is time for fun.
