Job summary

DEMCON seeks an experienced software engineer to lead the software domain for complex machine-building projects in Groningen. You will define software architecture, select components, and set standards in collaboration with system engineers, translating customer specs into scalable, maintainable solutions using BRIX on TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff hardware.

You will coach fellow engineers, assess risks early, and guide projects to high quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a software-related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial automation, mechanical engineering, or mechatronic systems.
• Extensive experience in object-oriented software development and structured software architectures.
• Experience with various industrial controllers within a machine-building environment.
• TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff experience preferred.
• Knowledge of C# / .NET is a plus.
• Knowledge of machine safety, motion, drives and/or robot control is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead within the software domain, defining architecture, component choices, and standards.
• Translate customer specifications into robust, maintainable, and scalable software using BRIX on TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff hardware.
• Coach and guide fellow software engineers and collaborate with system engineers across disciplines.

Our business unit Demcon Industrial Systems (DIS) develops and realizes a wide variety of projects for the (complex) machine building market. The projects range from partial development or a proof of principle setup to complete machines and total system solutions for our customers in the industry. Our projects are often at the interface of machine control, machine vision, data science, and artificial intelligence.

For our Groningen branch, we are looking for a versatile, enthusiastic, and experienced software engineer.

What are you going to do?

As a software engineer, you are the technical lead within the software domain. Together with system engineers, you determine the software architecture, component choices, and technical standards for our machine controls. You translate customer specifications into robust, maintainable, and scalable software solutions. To do this, you use BRIX, our standard machine control platform based on TwinCAT 3 (ST) and Beckhoff hardware. You work within a multidisciplinary team, with short communication lines to colleagues from other disciplines. You bring structure to software solutions, monitor quality, and provide technical guidance to other software engineers where necessary. In addition, you are involved in testing, integration, and the commissioning of machine controls.

In addition, you act as a coach and sparring partner for fellow engineers as well as the client. With your experience, you help substantiate technical choices, identify risks early on, and elevate projects to a high level of quality.

What are you bringing?

• A completed bachelor's or master's degree in a software-related technical field;
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role within industrial automation, mechanical engineering, or mechatronic systems;
• Extensive experience in object-oriented software development and the design of structured software architectures;
• Experience with various industrial controllers within a machine-building environment;
• Experience with TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff is preferred;
• Relevant knowledge of programming in C # /.NET is a plus;
• Relevant knowledge of machine safety, motion, drives and/or robot control is a plus.
