Job summary

Shelby Transportation is seeking a Sewer Collection Equipment Operator to join the field crew. Responsibilities include operating sewer collection equipment, performing maintenance, repairs, and related documentation to support reliable sewer service.

The role may involve different duties based on department needs, including more complex maintenance, specialized equipment operation, and coordination of work with the Foreman. Emergency response is required outside normal hours as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or able to obtain within 12 months.
• Underground utilities or related field experience desirable.
• Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Collection license within 18 months.
• Education, certifications, training, and experience may be combined for consideration.

Responsibilities

Sewer Collection Equipment Operator

General Description

The Sewer Collection department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of the City’s sanitary sewer collection system and for supporting reliable sewer service to the community. The Sewer Collection Equipment Operator serves as a member of the department’s field crew and performs the full range of assigned sewer collection work, including system maintenance, cleaning, repairs, utility locating, equipment operation, inspections, and related documentation.

Employees within this classification may be assigned different duties based on department needs, training, experience, certifications, and demonstrated competency. Assignments may include routine crew work, operation of specialized equipment, more complex maintenance or repair activities, documentation and technology-based work, or coordination of work activities when directed by the Foreman.

As a public employee, this position is responsible for supporting reliable utility service and requires consistent and prompt response to emergency repairs and operational needs that occur outside normal working hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Experience in underground utilities or closely related work such as construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, data/inspection work, or similar experience is desirable.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Collection license within 18 months of hire.
• The City may consider a combination of education, certifications, training, and experience in evaluating a candidate.

$24.75 - $33.57 (Class I Certification) $26.81 - $34.43 (Class II Certification)
