Job summary

Van Storm Recruitment in the Rotterdam area seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead hull structure concept and basic designs for complex maritime projects. You will translate client requirements into structural specifications and design solutions, and generate key drawings for construction, modification, and integration.

You will coordinate interfaces across disciplines and suppliers, ensuring feasible, buildable designs that respect budget and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Maritime Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• 8+ years of relevant experience with concept and basic design.
• Interest in submarines, offshore units, and special vessels.
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder alignment.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will work on technically complex maritime projects, translating client requirements into structural concepts, specifications, and budgets. You will be responsible for hull structure concept and basic design, coordinate technical interfaces across disciplines and suppliers, and ensure feasible, high-quality structural solutions. You will contribute across multiple markets, including naval vessels, submarines, floating offshore energy, and special vessels, with opportunities to take ownership and influence project selection.

What you already have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Maritime Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar
• Minimum +8 years of relevant experience with specialist knowledge in concept and basic design
• Interest in working across diverse projects (submarines, offshore units, special vessels)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to align stakeholders naturally
• Proactive mindset: you keep up with innovations in your field and translate them into engineering improvements
• Available for full-time in the Rotterdam area
• Willingness to perform a background check
• EU citizenship is a must, due to the nature of some military projects
