Overview

Naval Architect / Senior Structural Engineer – Freelance / Zuid-Holland

Duration: 12 Month Contract

We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with a Naval Architecture background to support a key client project in the naval and maritime sector. The role focuses on structural design, calculations, and FEM analysis of naval vessels and complex ship structures. This is a high-priority, technically challenging assignment for a freelance engineer.

As part of the project team, you will ensure all structural analyses and designs meet technical and regulatory standards, working closely with naval architects, systems engineers, and client teams. You will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, practical structural solutions for complex maritime projects.

Your Role

• Perform structural calculations and design for naval vessels and ship structures.
• Conduct FEM analyses (ANSYS or equivalent) and interpret results for design validation.
• Develop practical and technically sound structural solutions in line with project requirements.
• Review and validate outputs from third-party or offshore engineering teams.
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical ambiguities or structural challenges.
• Support project delivery with high-quality, client-compliant documentation of structural analyses.

Your Profile

• MSc in Naval Architecture or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in naval structural engineering (ship structures, naval vessels).
• Strong expertise in structural calculations, FEM analysis, and ship structural design.
• Hands-on experience with ANSYS or similar FEM software.
• Detail-oriented, structured, and process-driven.
• Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
