Job summary

project44 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Visibility Platform team in Amsterdam. You will help shape the shared engineering foundation powering all visibility products—ground, ocean, air, and orders—transforming billions of carrier signals into real-time tracking, milestones, and notifications for major shippers and providers.

You will design event-driven systems, own reliability and scalability, and work across AWS and GCP in a multi-cloud setup, collaborating with modal teams

Qualifications

• 5+ years in large-scale real-time cloud systems.
• Proficient in Java backend development.
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Experience with Kafka or Kinesis.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP; Azure a plus).
• Experience with SQL databases (Postgres).
• Familiar with agile software development.
• Container orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Observability and production systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve core platforms for visibility products.
• Design high-throughput, low-latency event-driven systems.
• Own reliability, performance, and scalability of platforms.
• Work across multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP; Azure).
• Collaborate with modal teams to expose platform capabilities.
• Share ownership of software delivery including dev, ops, and testing.
• Participate in on-call rotations and tooling improvements.
• Contribute to monitoring and automation to improve on-call experience.
