Job summary

Flow Traders is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own complex backend problems, from discovery to production, in a demanding trading environment. You will collaborate with traders, quants, operations, risk, and compliance to design and deliver a new OTC Trading Engine and modernise existing apps.

You will develop high-performance services across Java, C++, and Python, focusing on reliability, observability, and scalable design in a production setting.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating distributed backend systems in production.
• Expertise in Java or C++, with working knowledge of Python.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and scalable design.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka.
• Proven track record building high-performance, low-latency systems.
• Ownership mindset with strong stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience with modern engineering practices including testing, reviews, observability, and automation.
• Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve productivity while maintaining quality.

Responsibilities

• Understand requirements with traders, quants, risk, and compliance.
• Design and modernise an OTC trading engine across multiple asset classes.
• Build high-performance services and data pipelines in Java/C++/Python.
• Ensure production readiness with testing, observability, and failure handling.
• Own delivery from design to deployment and production operation.
