Job description

JD Logistics is building its European ocean product — a start-up inside a group, with enterprise customers, weekly sailings and carrier contracts being put in place now. You are the operational engine of it: the person in charge for our customers' shipments, running bookings and capacity day to day. It is a hands-on senior role with real ownership from week one: as the first operations hire you shape the processes the product will run on, working directly with the Head of Ocean Product.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Be the PIC for your customers. One face for the customer from booking to delivery: confirmations, milestones, changes, exceptions. You own the follow-up, so nothing waits and nothing is lost.
  • Run the bookings. Place and manage bookings with the carriers against our allocations: forecast in, bookings placed, cut-offs met, rollovers fought and escalated. Keep the weekly booking cycle running.
  • Manage the allocation. Track capacity used versus committed per carrier and lane; flag gaps and surpluses early; keep utilisation and the forward view up to date every week.
  • Quote from the card. Prepare quotations from the rate card — base, surcharges, validity — within our committed turnaround. Escalate only what the card does not answer.
  • Coordinate the chain. Origin teams, carriers, customs, warehouse and inland transport for the port-to-DC leg — including documentation, dangerous-goods checks and reefer requirements where they apply.
  • Keep the record clean. Shipment files, milestones and costs per shipment complete and correct, so billing is right the first time and margin is visible.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • 3–6 years in ocean freight operations or customer service at a freight forwarder or carrier — bookings, documentation and shipment coordination done yourself, ideally on Asia–Europe trade.
  • Booking-system fluent. Carrier portals and booking platforms, Incoterms, B/L and customs documentation basics; confident in Excel.
  • Service-minded and precise. You answer the same day, chase without being chased, and keep files exact. Calm under cut-off pressure.
  • A start-up temperament. Comfortable with a broad role and few colleagues: today a booking, tomorrow a quote, next week improving the process.
  • Languages. English fluent; Dutch or German a plus.
WHAT WE OFFER

A front-row seat in building an ocean product from the start: direct customer ownership, visible impact every week, and room to grow with the product — toward leading ocean operations, capacity management or pricing as the team is built around you. Competitive package.
