Job summary

Van Storm Recruitment is seeking a Senior Naval Architect in the Rotterdam area to lead complex vessel design calculations and guide a small team. You will ensure safe, efficient, and cutting-edge solutions through close collaboration with systems, mechanical, and structural disciplines.

Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers, coordinating designs, and interfacing with clients and classification societies to deliver clear specifications during construction.

Qualifications

• MSc in Naval Architecture.
• 5+ years of experience as a Naval Architect.
• Experience performing and validating stability, resistance, propulsion, weight, and motion calculations.
• Ability to guide and mentor junior engineers.

Job description

As a Senior Naval Architect, you will take on a central role in technically challenging and high-impact maritime projects. Your work will lay the foundation for safe, efficient, and cutting-edge vessels. Performing and reviewing calculations on stability, resistance, propulsion, weight management, and seakeeping will be a key part of your role. You will also guide and mentor younger engineers, helping to retain and develop knowledge within the team.

What you will do

• Perform Naval Architecture calculations such as stability, weight, hydrostatics, manoeuvrability, etc.
• Create and check structural and scantling calculations performed by other colleagues
• Act as a mentor and coordinate junior naval architects within your team
• Closely collaborate with the other disciplines (systems, mechanical, structural...) to have a fully integrated design
• Communication with clients and classification societies to ensure good deliverables
• Write specifications for the yard and be available to solve their questions in the construction phase

What you already have

• MSc. in Naval Architecture
• 5+ years of experience as a Naval Architect developing complex vessels with an offshore mission
• Perform and validate calculations for stability, resistance, propulsion, weight, and motion analysis
• You enjoy guiding and mentoring more junior engineers
• Excellent knowledge of theoretical naval architecture calculations
• Open personality, solution-driven and responsible
• Excellent communication skills and fluent English, so you can communicate efficiently with your multi-cultural team. Willingness to learn Dutch is much appreciated!
• Willingness to perform a background check
