Job summary

Nearfield Instruments in the Netherlands seeks a senior mechatronic engineer to own a subsystem from concept to volume production, translating performance KPIs into concrete designs and leading multidisciplinary teams.

You will work with system architects and project managers to ensure performance, reliability, manufacturability, and on-time delivery, while guiding junior engineers and shaping the subsystem roadmap.

Qualifications

• A MSc or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechatronic system or module architecture.
• Deep knowledge in motion control, dynamics and vibrations, sensing/actuation, system modelling, and precision mechanics.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary development projects, from concept to release.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to align teams and drive technical decisions.
• Proficiency with modelling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, FEM, Python) and a data-driven mindset.
• A strong command of English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Translating performance requirements into subsystem concepts, architectures, and engineering requirements.
• Taking technical ownership of development projects for your subsystem/module, ensuring alignment between disciplines and stakeholders.
• Making key design decisions – including motion system design, sensing, actuation, control strategy, and system integration approach.
• Shaping the subsystem roadmap to align with company and customer technology roadmaps.
• Leading design trade-offs between performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Coaching and guiding engineers within your project team; reviewing designs, simulations, and integration plans.
• Supporting industrialization, validation, and release of your subsystem into manufacturing and field use.
• Collaborating with system architects, project managers, and lead engineers to ensure technical excellence and on-time delivery.
