Job summary

Nearfield Instruments in Rotterdam seeks a hands-on Production Engineer to optimise and industrialise high-tech metrology manufacturing. You will bridge Production, Design & Engineering, Supply Chain and Quality to deliver robust, scalable processes.

With a mechatronic background and 2–4 years in a similar setting, you’ll lead improvements, perform root cause analyses, and support new product introductions. Travel to sites may be required; you’ll work in a collaborative, fast-growing scale-up.

Qualifications

• Solid technical background in mechatronic engineering (BSc/MSc level).
• 2–4 years of experience in a high-tech production or engineering environment.
• Proven ability to take ownership of complex modules and drive improvements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with hands-on troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with Python/SW knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with D&E, Quality, and Operations.
• Strong understanding of mechatronic systems, including mechanics, electronics, sensors, and actuators.
• Travel willingness for field support.

Responsibilities

• Act as a key technical interface between Production, Design & Engineering (D&E), Supply Chain, Quality, and Service.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations, ensuring stable, efficient, and scalable production processes.
• Serve as a technical point of contact for production-related issues and facilitate effective collaboration across functions.
• Provide hands-on engineering support during assembly, testing, qualification, and ramp-up activities.
• Investigate and resolve production issues using structured problem-solving methodologies in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Perform root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize disruptions and improve robustness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and ensure timely issue resolution.
• Support the introduction of new products, manufacturing processes, and design changes into production.
