Job summary

Nearfield Instruments in the Netherlands seeks a senior mechatronic engineer to own a subsystem from concept to volume production, translating system KPIs into concrete designs and coordinating with System Engineering and Architects.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams to ensure performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets, shaping roadmaps and driving successful releases with impact on semiconductor metrology.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechatronic system/module architecture.
• Deep knowledge in motion control, dynamics and vibrations, sensing/actuation, system modelling, and precision mechanics.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary development projects from concept to release.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to align teams and drive technical decisions.
• Proficiency with modelling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, FEM, Python) and a data-driven mindset.
• Strong command of English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Translating performance requirements into subsystem concepts, architectures, and requirements.
• Taking technical ownership of development projects for your subsystem/module and aligning disciplines.
• Making design decisions for motion, sensing, actuation, control strategy, and system integration.
• Shaping the subsystem roadmap to align with company and customer roadmaps.
• Leading design trade-offs between performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Coaching engineers, reviewing designs, simulations, and integration plans.
• Supporting industrialization, validation, and release into manufacturing and field use.
• Collaborating with system architects, project managers, and lead engineers to ensure delivery.
