Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Marine Systems Engineer to join its client’s engineering team in Rotterdam. The role focuses on marine systems engineering within an EPC/Oil & Gas environment and involves development, engineering and delivery across disciplines.

The position requires extensive marine systems expertise, strong interface management with clients, vendors and contractors, and a willingness to work hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 at home) on a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 10–15 years' Oil & Gas / Energy industry experience.
  • Strong Marine Systems Engineering experience.
  • EPC/Engineering Contractor background essential.
  • Experience with shipboard marine systems and studies.
  • Good understanding of P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Experience with hydrodynamic calculations.
  • Understanding of energy transportation and shipboard systems.
  • Experience with shipboard maintenance/operation.
  • Experience coordinating multiple disciplines and interfaces.
  • Experience with engineering design and calculation tools.
  • Experience in detailed design, package engineering or manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability, operability and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Marine Systems engineering activities across project scopes.
  • Develop and review deliverables including P&IDs, PFDs and studies.
  • Carry out hydrodynamic and marine systems calculations.
  • Develop safe, reliable, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Ensure activities and deliverables meet budgets and timescales.
  • Manage interfaces between Marine Systems and other disciplines.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, subcontractors and regulators.
  • Identify and manage changes across project interfaces.
  • Apply international codes, standards and company requirements.
  • Support reliability and safety assessments including Hazards & Effects Management.
  • Contribute to planning, resources and project execution.
  • Capture and share lessons learned across the project.
  • Act as technical authority for assigned scope if required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Marine Systems Engineer to join our client’s engineering team in Rotterdam.

This is not a naval design or naval architecture vacancy. We are specifically looking for engineers with strong marine systems engineering experience, ideally gained within an EPC environment and the Oil & Gas / Energy industry.

The role will be involved in the development, engineering and delivery of marine systems, working across different project disciplines and managing interfaces with clients, vendors, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Working 3 days a week in the office and two at home, 40 hour week , Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver Marine Systems engineering activities across assigned project scopes.
  • Develop and review engineering deliverables including P&IDs, PFDs and engineering studies.
  • Carry out and review hydrodynamic calculations and marine systems engineering calculations.
  • Develop safe, reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions in line with project requirements.
  • Ensure engineering activities and deliverables are completed within agreed budgets and timescales.
  • Support detailed design, package engineering and equipment selection.
  • Manage technical interfaces between Marine Systems and other engineering disciplines.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, subcontractors, classification societies and regulatory bodies.
  • Identify and manage changes and their impact across project systems and interfaces.
  • Apply relevant international codes, standards, regulations and company requirements.
  • Support reliability, operability and safety assessments, including Hazards & Effects Management / Formal Safety Assessment where required.
  • Contribute to engineering planning, resource requirements and project execution.
  • Capture and share lessons learned throughout the project.
  • Act as a technical authority or principal engineer for an assigned scope where required.
Experience Required
  • Engineering degree/diploma in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 10–15 years' experience within the Oil & Gas / Energy industry.
  • Strong experience in Marine Systems Engineering.
  • Previous experience working within an EPC / Engineering Contractor environment is essential.
  • Experience with shipboard marine systems and marine system engineering studies.
  • Good understanding of P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Experience with hydrodynamic calculations.
  • Understanding of energy transportation and shipboard-based systems.
  • Experience relating to shipboard system maintenance and operation.
  • Experience working with multiple engineering disciplines and managing technical interfaces.
  • Experience with engineering design and calculation tools.
  • Experience in detailed design, package engineering and/or manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of reliability, operability and safety.
