Everience Benelux is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join a DevOps team working on a real-time timetable and infrastructure backend. You will contribute to a modern, independently deployable platform and lead migration efforts to Azure/AKS.

You will own Java/Spring Boot development, drive cloud migrations, and deliver new features for critical operational processes while applying DevOps and AI-assisted practices to accelerate delivery.

Competenze

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (HBO/WO).
• 5+ years of experience as a Senior Java Developer in a complex IT environment.
• Proven hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise.
• Extensive Azure experience, preferably AKS, and container platforms.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging, REST services, and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with high-availability mission-critical software.
• Ability to use AI tools responsibly in software development.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a DevOps team working on a business-critical backend platform that processes timetable and infrastructure information and makes it available in real time to operational systems. The platform consists of modern, independently deployable components and plays a key role in supporting day-to-day operations. As part of the current transformation roadmap, the team is focused on further developing the platform, supporting system integrations, migrating workloads from a private cloud environment to Azure/AKS, and delivering new functionality for critical operational processes, including ERTMS and integrated operational control. This role requires a hands-on senior engineer who can combine technical expertise with a pragmatic approach and contribute directly to the successful delivery of these initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop Java and Spring Boot components and integrations to support further platform development;
• Support consuming systems in connecting to a new message format;
• Deliver the migration to Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS);
• Deliver new functionality for critical operational processes, including ERTMS and integrated operational control;
• Critically assess technical choices for simplicity, quality, and feasibility;
• Apply and promote modern engineering, testing, and DevOps practices within the team;
• Use AI tools purposefully for development, testing, refactoring, and analysis, and help the team adopt these practices;
• Work hands-on across the full software lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement;
• Work closely with technical leads while constructively challenging existing decisions and solution directions where appropriate;
• Help the team make stronger technical decisions and accelerate delivery from analysis to implementation.

Qualifications

• HBO or WO level of thinking and working (Bachelor's or Master's degree level);
• Minimum 5 years of recent experience as a Senior Java Developer in a complex IT environment;
• Deep, demonstrable hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot;
• Extensive, demonstrable experience with Microsoft Azure and container platforms, preferably Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS);
• Extensive, demonstrable experience with asynchronous messaging, REST services, and integrations within distributed systems;
• Extensive, demonstrable experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL;
• Demonstrable experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps practices;
• Experience working with business-critical software requiring high levels of availability and reliability;
• Demonstrable experience using AI tools responsibly and effectively within software development and coaching colleagues in their adoption;
• Excellent command of the Dutch language (mandatory);
• Hands-on, pragmatic, and results-oriented approach;
• Ability to move quickly from analysis to execution;
• Ability to influence colleagues through technical seniority and challenge existing ways of working constructively.

Preferred

• Experience with complex real-time or mission-critical systems, for example within rail, logistics, or traffic management environments;
• Experience with migrations from private cloud environments to Azure.
