Job description

Senior Implementation Consultant (TMS / Logistics Software)

Maarssen | 32–40 hours | Hybrid | €5,000–€6,040 gross/month + bonus + company car

Can you take a software implementation from first conversation to go-live, without needing five other consultants around you?

For a growing Dutch software company in the transport and logistics industry, we’re looking for a Senior Implementation Consultant who can take real ownership of complex customer implementations.

And an important distinction upfront:

This is not a role where you gather requirements and translate them into development tickets.

Your job is to understand what the customer is actually trying to achieve, identify the real problem and find the best way to solve it.

Sometimes there is a genuine product gap that needs to be discussed with the Product Owner.

But most of the time, the solution lies elsewhere:

  • using the standard software more intelligently;
  • changing or improving a process;
  • configuring the platform differently;
  • finding a practical workaround;
  • using an existing integration;
  • connecting a partner solution.

In other words: you implement solutions. You don’t just describe problems.

The environment

The company develops a broad, business-critical software platform for road transport and logistics.

The platform supports processes such as:

  • order management;
  • transport planning;
  • Track & Trace;
  • driver workflows;
  • customer portals;
  • reporting;
  • financial processes;
  • integrations with ERP, WMS and other business systems.

Customers depend on the software to keep their daily operation running.

And road transport is not an industry where you can spend three weeks discussing a theoretical solution.

Margins are tight. Operations move fast. A planner has trucks on the road, customers waiting and problems that need to be solved today.

That requires a certain type of consultant.

What will you do?

You’ll take ownership of several customer implementations and projects simultaneously.

That means you will:

  • analyse customer processes, needs and bottlenecks;
  • understand the problem behind the initial request;
  • translate processes into the possibilities of the standard software;
  • identify gaps and determine the smartest way to handle them;
  • configure and implement solutions;
  • coordinate integrations and partner solutions where needed;
  • challenge customers when their requested solution isn’t the best solution;
  • train and guide end users;
  • manage scope, planning, budget and expectations;
  • handle escalations and showstoppers;
  • work closely with Product, Support and Development;
  • bring implementations all the way to a successful go-live.

You won’t be one small part of a huge implementation programme.

You are the person in control of the implementation.

That doesn’t mean doing absolutely everything yourself. It means knowing what needs to happen, involving the right people where necessary and remaining accountable for the result.

MendriX' consultants typically work on several trajectories at once; some require attention every few days, others weekly or less frequently. Around 10–20% of the work takes place at customer sites.

Who are we looking for?

This time, we’re deliberately looking for someone senior.

Someone with a been-there-done-that toolbox who can walk into a complex customer environment and create structure without waiting for someone else to tell them what to do.

Ideally, you bring:

  • 5+ years of relevant implementation experience;
  • experience with TMS, transport software or logistics software;
  • alternatively, strong WMS/ERP/supply-chain implementation experience;
  • experience owning implementations end-to-end;
  • experience managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • strong stakeholder management skills;
  • the ability to communicate from operational users to owners/directors;
  • HBO+/University-level thinking and analytical ability;
  • fluent Dutch and comfortable professional English.

Direct TMS experience is highly valuable.

But we’re equally interested in someone from an adjacent logistics software environment who understands what it means to implement business-critical standard software in a pragmatic customer environment.

The mindset matters

Experience alone won’t make someone successful here. We’re looking for someone with:

Ownership. Authority. Energy. Curiosity. Pragmatism.

If a customer says:

“We need Development to build feature X.”

your first response shouldn’t automatically be:

“I’ll write the requirements.”

You’ll first want to understand:

Why do you need it?

What problem are we actually solving?

Can the existing platform already do it?

Can we solve it through configuration, process or integration?

What creates the most value with the least unnecessary complexity?

That mindset is essential.

The role also requires someone who can challenge a customer professionally.

Sometimes good consultancy means saying:

“I understand what you're asking for, but I don't think that's the best solution.”

You’ll work with very different people

At one customer you might sit across from the owner or managing director.

At another, your main stakeholder could be:

  • a transport planner;
  • application manager;
  • IT manager;
  • operations manager.

Some understand software extremely well. Others don’t. Some know exactly what they want. Others only know that their customer is demanding live delivery information, an API or better SLA reporting and that they need someone to figure out how to make it work.

You need to be comfortable in all of those situations.

The culture

The organisation is direct, entrepreneurial and ambitious. People are expected to have an opinion. You get a lot of autonomy, but autonomy here is directly connected to responsibility.

This probably isn’t your environment if you prefer:

“Tell me exactly what to do and I’ll execute it.”

It probably is if you think:

“Give me the problem, the context and the desired outcome. I’ll take it from there.”

The team values people who take initiative, stay calm when things become hectic and focus on getting the right thing done rather than hiding behind process.

What’s in it for you?

For the right senior profile, the package includes:

  • €5,000–€6,200 gross monthly salary based on 40 hours;
  • €750–€1,250 monthly variable bonus based on billable performance;
  • company car, including private use;
  • 7% employer pension contribution;
  • training and development opportunities;
  • home-office budget;
  • remote-work allowance;
  • company phone;
  • €400 comfort budget;
  • 20 holiday days with the option to buy 5 additional days;
  • hybrid working;
  • sabbatical opportunities.

The variable compensation generally represents a meaningful additional component on top of base salary. The role profile explicitly includes a €750–€1,250 monthly variable component alongside the company car and pension.

The team works hybrid, but this is not a fully remote position. Face-to-face collaboration matters, both at the office in Maarssen and occasionally at customer locations.

Why this role?

Because you won’t be hired to simply advise from the sidelines. You’ll be trusted to take a complex customer challenge and turn it into something that actually works. You’ll operate at the intersection of:

software + logistics + processes + people + ownership.

And as customers become larger and more complex, the organisation is specifically looking for someone who can raise the level of the consultancy team, not simply add another pair of hands.

If you enjoy taking control of complex software implementations and seeing them through from problem to result, we’d like to hear from you.
