Job summary

NGEN is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to shape the electrical design for Europe-wide utility-scale BESS projects (50 MW+). You will lead preliminary HV/MV design, review external firm deliverables, and ensure grid-code compliance for connections up to 400 kV.

You’ll drive protection, control philosophies, and interface with TSOs/DSOs. The role requires 5+ years in HV/substation design, experience with external partners, and fluency in English; German advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical design experience with HV substations or BESS/renewables.
• Experience producing/reviewing HV design deliverables (SLD, protection, earthing, cable sizing) to IEC standards.
• Experience managing external engineering firms and reviewing detailed design deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary electrical design packages for BESS projects in-house.
• Oversee external engineering firms and subcontractors for detailed design drawings.
• Review detailed designs (AutoCAD/EPLAN) and ensure CTO approval readiness.
• Specify HV/MV grid connections up to 400 kV and equipment sizing.
• Develop protection/control philosophies and review protection settings.
• Coordinate with procurement, EPCs, and commissioning to ensure design intent.
