Job summary

Altum Consulting is seeking a Senior Financial Reporting & Systems Accountant in Amsterdam. You will combine audit-derived technical accounting with investor reporting and finance systems development in an international setting.

The role focuses on accounting processes behind investor reporting, applying technical judgement and expanding knowledge of private equity accounting. There is strong involvement in projects and system improvements.

Qualifications

• 4-5 years of experience in an audit firm.
• A recognised accounting qualification (RA/CA/CPA) with a relevant degree.
• Strong understanding of financial statements and GAAP.
• Experience handling large datasets and advanced Excel skills.
• Knowledge of SQL and VBA is valuable; programming skills are a plus.

Senior Financial Reporting & Systems Accountant | Private Equity | Amsterdam

Build on your audit experience with a move into private equity, combining technical accounting with hands‑on involvement in investor reporting and finance systems.

Altum Consulting is partnering with a global private equity investment business, part of a listed investment group, to recruit a Senior Financial Reporting and Systems Accountant for its Amsterdam office. The business invests internationally through private equity funds and direct co‑investments, offering the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge within an established investment environment.

We are particularly interested in speaking with Netherlands-based chartered accountants with around four years of experience in an audit firm, ideally Big Four. Experience auditing financial services businesses, particularly investment firms, asset managers or private equity clients would provide a strong foundation for this opportunity.

When joining the accounting team, you will focus on the accounting processes behind investor reporting. You will apply the technical judgement developed in practice while gaining a deeper understanding of private equity accounting and the information investors need.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Producing reporting that stakeholders can rely on.
• Prepare and review financial and investor reports, examining the underlying data and ensuring the information meets internal and external reporting requirements.
• Applying technical accounting judgement.
• Assess the appropriate accounting treatment in different scenarios, maintain accounting policies and update financial statement disclosures to reflect relevant GAAP requirements.
• Helping deliver projects.
• Plan assigned activities, coordinate the resources needed and monitor progress, keeping stakeholders informed throughout.
• Improving the systems behind the numbers.
• Develop and maintain reporting tools and data feeds, support the introduction of new systems and keep supporting documentation up to date.
• You will also share your knowledge with colleagues through coaching on reporting and effective system use.

Education & Experience

• 4-5 years of experience working in an audit firm
• You will hold a recognised accounting qualification, such as RA, CA, CPA or equivalent, alongside a relevant degree.
• Your audit experience should have given you a strong understanding of financial statements and GAAP, with the confidence to assess accounting issues and explain your conclusions clearly. Financial services experience is particularly relevant.
• You will also be comfortable working with large datasets and bring advanced Excel skills, experience with accounting systems and some involvement in project work.
• Attention to detail matters, as does the ability to manage competing tasks without losing consistency.
• Fluent English and clear written communication are important within the international team.
• Knowledge of SQL and VBA would be valuable.
• Programming skills in any language would be an additional advantage, particularly for candidates keen to develop the systems and data side of their accounting career.
