To strengthen our Dutch finance team, we are seeking an experienced and driven Financial Controller who will play a key role in shaping our financial strategy and supporting the company’s growth ambitions.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a consistent corporate financial strategy through various avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and tax data. You will also act as the primary point of contact for banks, auditors, and tax authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and analyze weekly and monthly results and KPIs (financial and operational) in line with local and corporate accounting policies.
• Conduct analytical reviews of income statements and balance sheets.
• Complete month-end close routines and ensure accuracy of reporting.
• Prepare the annual budget and forecasts together with the Managing Director, covering revenue, direct/indirect costs, and cash flow.
• Provide detailed analysis and commentary on actual versus budget/forecast performance to the MD.
• Prepare statutory accounts and support audits with timely deliverables.
• Review and sign off VAT returns.
• Oversee and lead the Finance Department, managing a team of four professionals.
• Manage system access controls, segregation of duties, and follow up on audit and balance sheet reviews.
• Support ad hoc financial and business projects as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; 5+ years of experience as an financial controller (MBA is a plus).
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and consolidated financial statements.
• Proven leadership experience managing a team of 4+ people.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in handling large volumes of data.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen and ability to translate financial insights into business improvements.
• Hands-on, proactive, and independent working style.
• Experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry is highly preferred.
