Job summary

ALTEN in the Netherlands is seeking an Embedded C++ Software Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team developing high‑performance software for defense and radar systems operating in demanding real‑time environments.

You will design, develop and verify embedded components, collaborate with system architects, hardware and test engineers, and help deliver secure, reliable solutions that support critical missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in software development.
• Strong proficiency in C++ (C++11/14/17).
• Experience developing embedded software on Linux-based systems.
• Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design principles and software design patterns.
• Experience with multithreaded and concurrent programming.
• Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software applications using modern C++.
• Implement software for real-time and mission-critical systems.
• Participate in software architecture and technical design discussions.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and test engineers throughout the development lifecycle.
• Develop and execute unit and integration tests.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize software performance.
• Contribute to code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and security standards within a defence environment.
• Support software integration activities on target hardware platforms.
