Job summary

ABB's Critical Power product group in New Zealand is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to lead hardware design for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and UPS, and to advance power conditioning technologies. The role is onsite in Napier, NZ, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the region to deliver robust energy-storage solutions.

You will perform tests, ensure compliance with IEC/UL standards, and contribute to ongoing product development while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

BESS and power converters >200 kW.
5+ years designing/maintaining power electronic systems within specialist teams; able to lead projects.
Strong English communication skills across functions and sites.

Responsibilities

Lead the hardware design and development of the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).
Contribute to analysis/validation of low- and medium-voltage energy management systems and protection schemes.
Perform electrical design activities including cable/harness dimensioning, routing, and protection devices selection.
Conduct comprehensive functional, performance, and safety testing per IEC/UL certifications.
Develop, improve, and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, commissioning guides, and interface specifications.
Plan and execute system commissioning on customer sites with troubleshooting across product lines.
