Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead development of high‑power converter systems for UPS and energy storage, spanning concept to production. You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate across multi‑site teams, and ensure compliance with safety and standards across critical power applications.

You will work onsite in NZ, contributing to the Critical Power product group with a history of energy efficiency innovations and modular UPS architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in power electronics design and development.
• Experience with three‑phase multi‑MW systems and grid‑connected power electronics.
• Strong simulation/modelling experience (SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD).
• Leadership experience in multi-site teams and mentoring junior engineers.
• Strong English communication across functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of high‑power converter systems and architectures.
• Review designs, calculations, simulations, and test plans; drive cross‑functional decisions.
• Develop power converter topologies for UPS and energy storage systems.
• Lead modelling/simulation and oversee lab testing to meet performance and safety standards.
• Drive root cause investigations and continuous improvement; contribute to IP development.
