Job summary

BIQH Financial Data Services seeks a Senior Database Administrator (Microsoft SQL Server) in the Netherlands to optimize and maintain a high-availability SQL Server environment supporting a rapidly growing fintech platform. Responsibilities

• Optimize and maintain the SQL Server environment to ensure performance and reliability as the platform grows.

• Monitor database health, implement best practices for performance, maintenance, security and high availability.
• Plan and execute upgrades and migrations to newer SQL Server versions with minimal downtime.

The position of the Senior Database Administrator (Microsoft SQL Server)

You will become part of the operations team at BIQH and play a key role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of our Microsoft SQL Server environment. You will be the first DBA within the team, and as such you will work closely with our software developers and technical architects to optimize our database infrastructure and support the continued growth of our Market Data Platform.

Your tasks are diverse and include (but are not limited to):

Optimize and maintain our SQL server environment (70% of your time)

You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing our Microsoft SQL Server environment. You will proactively identify performance bottlenecks, analyze activity, and optimize complex SQL queries and execution plans. You will work with our operations and development team to improve existing SQL statements, optimize import processes, and ensure our databases continue to perform at the highest level as our platform grows.

You will also be responsible for monitoring database health, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing best practices around performance tuning, indexing, maintenance, and security.

Modernize our database platform (30% of your time)

As part of our continuous technology improvements, you will help us modernize our database infrastructure. One of your first major projects will be planning and executing the upgrade of our on-premise, high available, always on clustered Microsoft SQL Server environment to a more recent version. You will assess compatibility, minimize downtime, and ensure a smooth migration while maintaining the stability of our production environment.

You will also contribute ideas for improving our database architecture and help establish best practices for future development.

• We are searching for an analytical and hands-on database professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and continuously improving database performance. The ideal candidate has the following experience, expertise, and personal characteristics:
• Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Good understanding of Microsoft SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, and administration.
• Experience monitoring SQL Server activity and identifying performance bottlenecks.
• Ability to analyze and optimize complex SQL queries and execution plans.
• Experience improving SQL import processes, ETL statements, and database performance.
• Experience planning and executing SQL Server upgrades and migrations is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of indexing strategies, statistics, maintenance plans, backup & recovery, and high availability concepts.
• Proactive mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Bachelor's or University degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field is a plus.
