Job summary

A recruitment consultancy is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join a team for a European Institution in The Hague. Ideal candidates will have over 8 years of experience and deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, with responsibilities including database administration and high availability solutions. EU citizenship is a must. This is a contract position with an on-site working model.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in ICT consulting in enterprise environments, with at least 6 years in DBA roles.

• Strong knowledge of HA/DR technologies and performance tuning.

I am looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer to join the DBA team for a European Institution in The Hague. This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and a track record of working in high-security, enterprise environments.

Responsibilities:

• Administer, monitor, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases (2008–2022), Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Manage database deployment, configuration, patching, and backups
• Implement and maintain high availability & disaster recovery solutions (AlwaysOn AG, WSFC)
• Automate workflows using PowerShell and DevOps pipelines (Azure DevOps, FlyWay)
• Tune and optimise performance using tools like SolarWinds DPA
• Support additional DBMSs (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL) where needed
• Ensure data security, compliance, and operational excellence in a mission-critical environment

Requirements:

• 8+ years in ICT consulting in enterprise environments, with at least 6 years in DBA roles
• Proven expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (Standard & Enterprise) and Azure SQL
• Strong knowledge of HA/DR technologies and performance tuning
• Experience in scripting and automation for DBA tasks
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL a plus
• MUST BE AN EU CITIZEN
