Job summary

Xebia Group in the Netherlands is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build robust systems embedded in client teams. You will advocate for clean code, testing, and reliable delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Scala, or Go.

• Currently based in the Netherlands.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Xebia, you'll be embedded in client teams, designing and building high-quality systems from the ground up. You'll have strong opinions on how software should be built: and you'll use them.

What you'll work on

• Backend services built to last: clean, tested, maintainable
• Distributed systems and event-driven architectures
• Code and architecture reviews that actually raise the bar
• Introducing engineering best practices where they're missing
• AI integrations where they genuinely add value

What you bring

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Deep experience with Kotlin, Java, Scala, or Go
• Strong opinions on testing, clean code, and continuous delivery
• Familiarity with AI tools and LLMs
• The ability to communicate clearly with both engineers and stakeholders
• Currently based in the Netherlands

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, AWS, GCP)
• Open source contributions or active side projects
