Job summary

DistroKid, a fully remote company, is seeking an API Engineer to design and scale backend services powering our platform and partnerships. You will own API design, distributed systems on AWS, and cross‑team collaboration to deliver reliable, high‑throughput infrastructure for millions of musicians worldwide.

This senior to staff level role emphasizes hands‑on coding, system observability, and enterprise integration patterns across diverse platforms and tools.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building backend systems in production.
• Recent hands-on coding; not a pure design/management role.
• Deep AWS experience across compute/storage/networking.
• Designing and operating high‑scale distributed systems.
• Experience with enterprise integration platforms or large‑scale integration layers.
• Ability to own end‑to‑end systems from architecture to production.

Responsibilities

• Own design and implementation of high‑scale backend systems and APIs.
• Architect and evolve distributed systems on AWS for reliability and performance.
• Collaborate across backend, infra, and DevOps from design to deployment.
• Design and integrate with external platforms to support scalable workflows.
• Guide technical design decisions for data models, boundaries, and failure handling.
• Write production code and improve system quality.
• Improve observability, reliability, and performance at scale.
• Partner with product and engineering to translate business needs into robust solutions.
