Job summary

Queen Square Recruitment is seeking a SCADA Engineer for a 6-month freelance assignment near 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Hybrid arrangement with 2–3 days onsite.

You will design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems, integrate RTUs/PLCs and field devices, and support telemetry and real-time data across the distribution network.

The project focuses on live grid management and congestion management; fluent English is required and Dutch is a plus.

Qualifications

• Hands-on SCADA engineering experience on Siemens Spectrum Power, GE PowerOn, ABB Network Manager, or Survalent.
• Strong background in power systems and distribution grid operations.
• Experience with RTU/PLC integration and configuration.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3, ICCP, and Modbus protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems for real-time grid operations.
• Integrate RTUs, PLCs, and field devices into the SCADA environment.
• Support telemetry, alarm management, and data acquisition across the network.
• Commission and test SCADA functionality during substation upgrades.
• Collaborate with control room and protection teams to ensure system reliability.

SCADA Engineer | 6 Month Freelance Assignment

's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, Hybrid 2 to 3 days onsite

Distribution grid and congestion management programme

6 months, strong scope to extend

We're working with a major Dutch regional network operator on a critical grid management programme and are looking for a SCADA Engineer to join the team on a freelance basis. This is a chance to work on live distribution grid infrastructure at a time when congestion management is one of the most pressing challenges facing Dutch energy networks.

What you'll do

• Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems supporting real time grid and substation operations
• Integrate RTUs, PLCs, and field devices into the SCADA environment
• Support telemetry, alarm management, and real time data acquisition across the distribution network
• Commission and test SCADA functionality during substation upgrades and rollouts
• Work closely with control room engineers and protection/automation teams to ensure system reliability

What you'll need

• Hands on SCADA engineering experience (Siemens Spectrum Power, GE PowerOn, ABB Network Manager, Survalent, or a similar platform)
• Strong background in power systems, substation automation, or distribution grid operations
• Experience with RTU/PLC integration and configuration
• Understanding of real time data exchange protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, ICCP, Modbus)
• Fluent English, Dutch a plus but not essential

Nice to have: experience working within a Dutch DSO (Enexis, Liander, Stedin) or another European distribution network operator.
