Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor in System Engineering. You will advance knowledge and methods for resilient critical infrastructures while inspiring students to address societal challenges through systems thinking and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.

You will contribute to research and education within the Systems Engineering section of the MAS Department in TPM, shaping resilient infrastructure research and education for the future.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree and PhD in a methodologically relevant field such as industrial engineering, systems engineering or systems analysis.
• Strong publication and research track record appropriate to career stage.
• Proven ability to secure external research funding and develop competitive proposals.
• Commitment to excellence in academic teaching and supervision at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
• Excellent command of English; Dutch language is preferred but not required at start.

Responsibilities

• Teach and coordinate courses, developing knowledge of systems thinking and modelling.
• Develop and apply methods to analyze and design interventions for resilience of critical infrastructures.
• Investigate socio‑technical characteristics and cascading effects across vital societal functions.
• Publish research and contribute to national and international collaborations.
• Acquire research funding and supervise PhD candidates and postdocs.
• Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students and contribute to educational program development.
• Strengthen methodological expertise through mixed-methods research (systems engineering, agent-based modelling, participatory modelling).
