Job description

What you will do

  • Contribute to our summits and conferences and help convert on-stage information into engaging editorial stories
The kind of stories we want you to find

Rather than waiting for a press release announcing that a yacht has launched, we want you to know that it is happening.

Rather than simply reporting that several large yachts have entered refit in the Middle East, we want you to ask whether the region is becoming a serious competitor to established European refit centres.

Rather than publishing what a CEO says on stage at one of our events and moving on, we want you to speak to them afterwards, challenge the idea, talk to other people in the market and find the real story.

The question should frequently be:

What can SuperYacht Times tell its audience that they cannot find anywhere else?

Who we are looking for
  • You are naturally curious and enjoy finding things out.
  • You are comfortable contacting someone you have never spoken to before and asking questions.
  • You understand that good reporting comes from relationships, persistence and judgement, not simply searching online.
  • You are able to work quickly when news breaks, but you care deeply about getting the facts right.
Ideally, you have:
  • Professional journalism or reporting experience
  • Strong interviewing and source-building skills
  • Experience covering business, finance, luxury, maritime, automotive, aviation or another specialist industry
  • The ability to recognise what is genuinely newsworthy
  • Confidence dealing with senior executives and high-profile industry figures
  • Strong judgement around confidential and sensitive information
  • The ability to work independently and pursue stories proactively
  • An interest in data-driven journalism and market analysis

Previous experience in the superyacht industry is useful, but not essential. Strong journalistic instincts and the ability to learn a specialist industry quickly are more important.

How you will work

You will be part of an editorial operation that works closely across:

  • Breaking news and market intelligence
  • Reporting and analysis
  • Photography and visual journalism
  • Social media and video

When an important story breaks, these teams work together immediately.

A major yacht launch, for example, might involve confirming the news, sourcing the first photographs, updating the yacht's profile, publishing the breaking story, producing social content and video, and then following the story with deeper reporting.

We want journalists who enjoy working this way.

What we offer
  • A unique reporting role in a highly international industry
  • Direct access to some of the world's leading yacht builders, designers, brokers and industry executives
  • International travel to major yacht shows, launches, events and industry destinations
  • Access to the most comprehensive proprietary datasets in the superyacht sector
  • The opportunity to produce journalism that genuinely influences how the industry understands itself
  • A collaborative team based in Amsterdam
  • Salary between €34k to €42k per year (including 8% holiday allowance)

Most importantly, this is an opportunity to help shape the next generation of SuperYacht Times journalism: faster when speed matters, deeper when explanation matters, and increasingly based on information and insight that only we have.
