Job description

SuperYacht Times is the leading source of media, data and intelligence for the global superyacht industry. We cover the market through daily news, in-depth reporting, magazines, events across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and the world’s most comprehensive superyacht database.

We have a 40,000-strong YouTube audience, an exceptional archive of photography and magazines, on-camera talent already in-house, and a highly engaged industry following across our platforms.

We are building out our video function. A Video Producer has just joined to lead it, and now we are looking for the person who will actually make the work — behind the camera, in the edit, on shoots, and in the studio.

The role (Reports to: Video Producer)

You will be the second hire on our video team and the craft engine behind everything we make. That means shooting in the studio and on location, editing the long‑form pieces, and building the short‑form cuts for social.

The work spans regular formats and a stream of one‑off projects. On any given month you might be filming a studio interview with our founder, flying to a shipyard in La Spezia to film a yacht under construction, covering a yacht launch or industry event, cutting a monthly intelligence report, and building a dozen 30‑second vertical clips for LinkedIn and YouTube Shorts. Video is the primary skill, but on location, particularly at launches and events, you will also shoot stills.

You will work closely with the Video Producer, who owns format, script and editorial direction and has final creative call on the work. You will own the visual execution and shape the aesthetic of the function as we build it, bringing your own ideas and pushing back where it matters, with the producer as the tie‑breaker. This is a job where craft matters and the work is seen.

What you will own

  • Shooting. Studio production days (interviews, presenter pieces, monthly updates), plus location shoots at shipyards, on yachts, at yacht launches, and at industry events across Europe and beyond. Multi‑camera when needed, run‑and‑gun when the situation calls for it.
  • Lighting and sound. Making our studio look and sound like a serious production. Handling audio properly on location, where conditions are usually worse than you would like.
  • Editing. Lead edit on long‑form pieces; weekly recap, monthly updates, interviews. Pace, structure, sound design, colour.
  • Short‑form. Cutting each long‑form piece into 6–12 vertical clips for LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube Shorts and TikTok. This is a distinct craft and a real part of the job, not an afterthought.
  • Motion graphics. Data visualisations, lower thirds, transitions, title sequences. Our monthly intelligence update draws on our proprietary superyacht database, so the on‑screen graphics need to feel like they belong with a serious data product. Full After Effects specialists are not expected; capability and taste are.
  • Stills on location. Photography at yacht launches and industry events, capturing yachts alongside video. Not the primary skill, but a real capability we need on the team.

These are the dealbreakers. If you can do these things well, we want to hear from you.

  • 3–5 years of professional experience shooting and editing video, ideally with a mix of studio and location work.
  • Strong camera skills; comfortable with cinema cameras, lenses, lighting and gimbals.
  • Serious editing chops in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, with a reel that demonstrates long‑form storytelling; interviews, documentary‑style pieces, structured narrative.
  • A short‑form portfolio. Not just clips extracted from long‑form, but real evidence you understand vertical, hooks, and how the first three seconds decide everything.
  • Audio literacy. Lav mics, boom, room treatment, post‑production sound (Audition or equivalent). You know that bad audio kills a video faster than a bad picture.
  • Organised. File naming, project structure, backups, archive discipline. Non‑negotiable at volume.
  • Willing to travel internationally. Superyachts and shipyards are in Monaco, Palma, Antibes, Fort Lauderdale, Dubai and beyond. Not weekly, but regular short trips with occasional longer ones.
  • Comfortable working solo on shoots, but happy in a small team when we scale up for bigger projects.
  • Right to work in the Netherlands.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

None of these are dealbreakers. If you have some of them, tell us; if you don’t, apply anyway.

  • Drone qualified with a valid EU licence and real flying experience.
  • Motion graphics ability in After Effects or equivalent; data‑driven graphics experience is a real plus.
  • Competent stills photography, with Lightroom and Photoshop skills.
  • Colour grading in DaVinci.
  • Sound design instincts; you notice music and mix, not just picture.
  • Experience filming in industrial environments (shipyards are essentially factories).

What we offer

  • A craft role in a small, ambitious team.
  • Indicative salary range: €40k to €50k including 8% holiday allowance, depending on experience.
  • Regular travel to shipyards and yachts most people never see the inside of.
  • Direct collaboration with our founder and presenter, and a producer who knows what they are briefing for.
  • An office on the water in Amsterdam.
