Job summary

Lever, Inc. in the Netherlands is seeking a Software Engineer for Trust & Safety.

This fully remote role joins a distributed engineering team building reliable email infrastructure for millions of developers worldwide. You will design and implement anti-abuse systems to protect legitimate senders while preventing spam, phishing, fraud and account takeovers, with ownership from discovery to production deployment.

Qualifications

• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Deep hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React, ideally including frameworks such as Hono and Next.js.
• Experience with Go or willingness to use it for latency-sensitive backend services.
• Solid infrastructure and reliability engineering skills, including AWS, AWS CDK, and Datadog.
• Strong understanding of APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, and stateful services.
• Experience designing resilient systems that fail safely and use of metrics for production reliability.
• Strong observability practices, including metrics, logging, tracing, and monitoring.
• Ability to take ownership across the stack, from frontend applications to backend services and databases.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate real-time enforcement systems with millisecond latency.
• Design scalable detection pipelines from email sending/receiving to decisions and actions.
• Develop and improve detection rules and enforcement policies.
• Detect and contain account takeovers and leaked API keys.
• Automate manual workflows to improve operational efficiency.
• Build and deploy ML classifiers for spam and phishing detection.
• Maintain observability through logs, metrics, tracing and auditing.
