Job summary

Jobgether is partnering with a Netherlands-based team to hire a Software Engineer specialized in Ruby on Rails APIs. This fully remote, globally distributed engineering group builds and maintains Rails-based APIs, collaborating across business units to automate workflows and improve efficiency.

You will design, implement, test, and release production-grade APIs, ensuring security and reliability while contributing to engineering best practices in an asynchronous environment.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on Ruby.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications, including explaining API decisions.
• Effective Git skills and familiarity with established software development workflows.
• Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into clearly scoped technical tasks.
• Strong software engineering practices including automated testing and code reviews.
• Awareness of secure coding principles and handling sensitive data responsibly.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and verifying generated code/tests.
• Clear communication in an agile, distributed team.
• Adaptability with asynchronous collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand workflows and identify API-driven improvements.
• Design, develop, test, review, and release Ruby on Rails APIs following security practices.
• Identify dependencies and communicate risks; seek guidance when scope expands.
• Apply secure engineering practices for authentication, authorization, and data handling.
• Investigate defects, root causes, and add regression tests.
• Improve system reliability and maintainability through code quality improvements.
• Work with stakeholders to assess adoption and productivity of delivered solutions.
• Engage in domain modelling and technical design discussions with Product and senior engineers.
• Contribute to code reviews, document API behavior, and support teammates.
