Job summary

Partner Company, based in the Netherlands, seeks a Senior Ruby Engineer to join a high-performing backend team building real-time gaming and high-load platforms. You will design and implement backend features powering game logic, financial transactions, and large-scale user interactions.

You will collaborate with engineering, QA, and SRE to ensure stability, observability, and scalability, contributing to architectural decisions and shaping robust, cloud-native services in a remote-first

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend development experience with Ruby on Rails in production.
• Experience with high-load or real-time distributed systems (gaming/fintech preferred).
• Strong understanding of REST, microservices, event-driven or modular monolith design.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis in production.
• Knowledge of idempotent operations, retry logic, and fault tolerance.
• Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Kafka, or similar).
• Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Ability to read and refactor complex codebases; code review experience.
• Strong English communication for documentation and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend features supporting high-load gaming and real-time platform functionality.
• Participate in architectural decisions to ensure scalability and long-term maintainability.
• Optimize system performance focusing on latency, concurrency, throughput, and reliability under heavy load.
• Ensure robustness of financial and transactional systems (idempotency, retries, fault tolerance).
• Develop and maintain APIs for frontend apps and external partners.
• Build and support integrations with third-party platforms and providers.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and monitoring for observability.
• Collaborate with SRE and QA for stability and release readiness.
