Job description

Introduction to the job

The Communications team helps us engage with our key audiences to build understanding and trust. We are a global team with colleagues on three continents, across all of the company's major locations. We bring our experience and expertise to bear to enable the company to operate, grow, and adapt; to strengthen our reputation; and to empower more of our leaders to communicate. We are looking for a communications project leader to help drive and coordinate our delivery, and who explicitly aspires to transition into a communicator role within the next few years. As a project leader, you will be part of the Strategy, Insights & Operations (SIO) team.

The communications project leader role
  • You work partly on communications content and partly on project management. Consider this role as a landing job (~2 years) to transition into a content-focused communications role over the next few years.
  • You help coordinate multi-disciplinary stand-alone projects and lead sub-projects, predominantly in support of our "Strategic Communications" teams (the communications partners of Sector and Business Line executive leadership).
  • You own the project plan and the delivery of results. You understand and apply industry standards for project management (adapted to the comms function) and are able to lead others on the project. Project timeline: typically 3-6 months. Resources: generally 1-3 FTE. Suppliers are often involved. Reporting line: manager level. You build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including regional communications colleagues, internal customers, and external partners to ensure successful program delivery. Senior colleagues will be there to support and coach you.
  • As a SIO team member, you play an active role in furthering the maturity of our comms function through improvement and change projects on the topics of Strategy, Insights, Operations, and Governance.
Candidate profile
  • 4+ years of work experience in a high-tech environment
  • 2+ years of experience in project and delivery management within the company (for instance as a PL, PO, SM, Output Leader, PMO, etc.)
  • Understanding of the company's products, technology, and organization
  • Ambition to move into a communications career path, willing to join a formal training program to support your transition
Job responsibilities
  • Business Needs / Improvements: Plans and coordinates the identification and elicitation of requirements; analyzes those requirements for completeness and alignment; documents and manages requirements throughout the life of the project; and coordinates verification of the end deliverable. Identifies opportunities for improvement; proposes and makes improvements to work processes. Generally done at the project level.
  • Project Planning / Roadmap: Produces workstream or project plans, ensuring all activities are identified and appropriately organized to deliver project objectives, and comply with the organization's project management framework.
  • Project Team Management: Leads a small project team; communicates the outcomes needed and direction to achieve them; coordinates team actions on project tasks; requests additional team member support when needed; and identifies areas for improvement to build team capability through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Project Resource Management: Manages deployment of project resources, proactively managing project costs, providing forecasts, and presenting variances with narrative at appropriate review points to ensure effective utilization.
  • Project Governance: Ensures project compliance with the organization's wider program and/or portfolio management decision-making structures and processes.
  • Stakeholder Management and Advising: Plans and delivers stakeholder engagement activities to develop effective project working relationships and to ensure stakeholder needs and concerns are identified and met.
  • Project Risk and Issue Management: Identifies and evaluates risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints associated with the project, escalating where appropriate. Reviews and solves problems (technical, process, logistic), prioritizes, informs stakeholders, and escalates as necessary.
  • Project Review / Reporting: Drafts project review reports and presentations, including key information, commentary, and recommendations to support the review process and enable stakeholders to evaluate progress and agree on change.
  • Project Benefit Realization: Carries out baseline assessments and post-implementation analyses to contribute to the measurement and tracking of business benefits.
  • People Development: Organizes team structure (roles and responsibilities) and meeting rhythm. Mentors project team members.
